The Farm
In 1972 Mr. and Mrs. Charles Linton, their children; Craig, Beth and Forrest, and
six ponies, moved to Woodpecker Farm. This was the beginning of a succession
of local, state and national champions.
Woodpecker is renowned for their champion ponies. Pat (Mrs. Charles Linton) was member and past president of The Virginia Pony Breeders Association. Virginia breed ponies have become quite famous throughout the United States.
Soon, the children had grown out of ponies and the farm began breeding buying and training thoroughbreds. The pony breeding still continues. Over the years Woodpecker ponies have received countless American Horse Show Assoc., Virginia Horse Show Assoc. and Virginia Pony Breeders Assoc. champions.
In 1997 Forrest and Beth established a new organization to monitor rules and give year-end awards for local horse shows. This became the "Battlefield Horse Show Association" which is now governs the area's local hunter and jumper show competitions.
